Access 1st offer DSA Needs Assessments - How does it work?

Once your funding body (Student Finance England, NHS, Social Work Bursaries) has written to confirm that you are eligible for disabled students allowances, simply call us to book an Assessment of Needs.

  • Appointments available Monday to Friday, 8am-8pm; Saturday/Sunday, 10am-4pm.
  • Central and Greater London: Our DSA Assessment Centres are conveniently located in the heart of London (SW1 and SE1), as well as in Whetstone, Croydon, Enfield and Tottenham. (Find us at access-1st.co.uk/find-us)
  • At the assessment you will discuss study issues and the ways of overcoming them, including equipment and software, Specialist 1:1 tutorials/mentoring, examination arrangements and other support or adjustments relevant to enable to study at your best.
  • The assessor will then write a needs assessment report, which – with your approval – will be sent to your funding body recommending support. Reports are normally forwarded to the funding body within 10 working days. A copy will also be sent to your Disability Advisor at your university, with your approval.
  • SFE will then write back to confirm the support that they agree to fund; normally within 15 working days.
  • We offer help with the ordering of equipment, put you in touch with equipment suppliers and support providers, or advise on other questions that may arise from time to time.
  • We offer Specialised Assistive Technology Training to show you how to use equipment/software to make studying easier and more enjoyable.
     
  • We also offer specialist learning support tutorials and mentoring so that you can develop study skills and strategies to engage with the exciting challenges of higher education.
