Access 1st offer DSA Needs Assessments - How does it work?

Once your funding body (Student Finance England, NHS, Social Work Bursaries) has written to confirm that you are eligible for disabled students allowances, simply call us to book an Assessment of Needs.

  • Appointments available Monday to Friday, 8am-8pm; Saturday/Sunday, 10am-4pm.
  • Greater London and Liverpool: Our DSA Assessment Centres are conveniently located in the heart of London (SW1 and SE1), as well as in Barking, Croydon, Enfield, Hatfield, Hendon, Lambeth North, Liverpool City Centre, Tottenham, Watford, Whetstone. (Find us at access-1st.co.uk/find-us)
  • At the assessment you will discuss study issues and the ways of overcoming them, including equipment and software, Specialist 1:1 tutorials/mentoring, examination arrangements and other support or adjustments relevant to enable to study at your best.
  • The assessor will then write a needs assessment report, which – with your approval – will be sent to your funding body recommending support. Reports are normally forwarded to the funding body within 10 working days. A copy will also be sent to your Disability Advisor at your university, with your approval.
  • SFE will then write back to confirm the support that they agree to fund; normally within 15 working days.
  • Our team are here to advise you regarding queries relating to DSA funded support for the duration of your course. If your query doesn't fall within our remit, we will do our best to point you to relevant points of contact for further advice, eg, your disability team at your university, your funding body, etc.
